Houses and more important things

I thought I should probably post something here. Actually the most exciting thing that's happening is how well my baby is walking. He's almost there. So soon he's going to be walking everywhere. I'm not sure how it's going to change life. He already crawls at ridiculously fast speeds and gets into everything. But maybe I'm just being optimistic. I'm excited to see him walking. He claps whenever he gets to where he wants to go. Hilarious. I'm also really sad my boy is growing up so fast. And changing, like every minute. It's also wonderful. I love my kisses and hugs and my heart is happy whenever he says mamamamama, even when he's not talking to me. "Dis", "dis" (this, this). That's what we all listen to everyday all day. As he points at everything. All day. But it's fun. Also throwing things. Everything. All things. We need to start channeling his throwing abilities. Because he's really good at it, but it hurts if it's not a ball.

So our house. Our house is looking more and more house like, livable in and pretty everyday. The living room/hallway/kitchen is all painted. I have one more coat of chalk board paint to put up and then we'll officially be owners of a magnetic chalk board wall. I think it's neat. I hope Caed will too. The living room and hallway have flooring. So pretty. So just the kitchen and our room left to floor. And only our room left to paint. We actually might live there some day.

The end of May Dar has to make a trip to Calgary... for school or, you know, something. But I like to call it our Ikea trip. Because we're going to go to Ikea. And I'm going to buy things. Namely a shelf/pantry thing for my bathroom (mess be hidden!) and some other this and that items. Vote: ceiling fan in the bed room or pretty light fixture? I'm leaning towards pretty light fixture, but my practical side (it shrinks when the alternative is pretty) says I should get a ceiling fan. Or maybe that was Josh talking?

My brothers are helping out once again. So while I'm writing about the house, they're actually at the house. Hauling drywall downstairs. Hanging drywall? I would know if I went. They are so lovely. And I didn't go because I am, for two weeks, a working woman. Ok, it's only in the mornings and it is only for two weeks. But I feel tired. And I miss my boy more than I thought I would, like a lot, which is silly because I'm not gone that long, but it's true. He's too wonderful. Also, I can't lift drywall. I'm a wimp. I stayed home.

I have no pictures of the house. I apologize. I shall leave you with a picture of my son eating a banana.

Cute and hilarious, right?! Wait 'til he gives you an open mouth kiss. You'll love that slobbery mess.

The Purple Door

Darci came and helped last night.

I'm not sure if I posted anything about my purple door in the past, but if I did you may have noticed that it looked very much like black. Also, when I painted it the furnace wasn't working. And even though this past winter has been a warm one, it was not quite summer weather. And my hands were cold. And I dropped the can of paint and spilled it everywhere. Which wasn't really a big deal because everything was getting redone still. Except the front window. But we let it dry and then my lovely husband scraped it off.

To sum up. Purple was actually black. I threw it everywhere. And doors obviously can't be white. So I had to try again.

And this time I think they're actually purple. Darci came and painted them so I didn't waste another can of paint. So that was nice. They need another coat. But I think I really like it. That being said. I haven't gone back to look what it looks like dry.

Pretty sister painting. :)

The purple paint was really thick. I'm not sure if that's because it's exterior paint, or behr paint or what, but really really thick. It plops more than pours. I can't even think of anything to relate it to. After Dar was done painting purple, she started painting some of the interior doors with the white. It was semi frustrating, because the white paint is like normal paint, but she found it runny and ineffective. I forgot to take a picture of that.

So while Darci was painting doors purple. I was painting ceilings white. Painting white on white is difficult. It's really hard to see where you've painted. Especially in our not so well lit house. But the living room and kitchen have one coat of paint on. Yay.

And while we were painting, Josh was actually installing the flooring in Caed's room. So that's really exciting.

It needs a swiffer... but you get the general idea.

Close up. I'm not sure why it looks so red. I don't think it is this red.

Oh. And I filled some of the holes in the wainscoting and trim in the bathroom. Which was not hard, did not take long, and was pink. Fun! It dries white. So they say. But the pink is fun.

Pink!

Me and My Chair

So. If you knew me really, really well. As in lived with me, listed to my every idea that popped into my head. Were with me through all my obsessions, opinions and future plans, you would know that I wanted a chair and a half chair. Ok. So maybe you have to be my husband, or some unlucky bystander. But it was such an unattainable goal, I need to get rich first goal, that I didn't make a big deal about it.

And then I moved to Medicine Hat. And in Medicine Hat there is a facebook group called "Medicine Hat Garage Sale." It's a fun group. I have bought more than one thing from it, including a couple items of clothing, really cheap robeeze for Caed, a diaper bag, and now.....

A chair and a half.

How wonderful.

You guys. It was $35. And I snatched it from someone else because I'm a unbusy person. I will admit to feeling a little bit guilty. Because she wanted it first. But I could get it first and the seller was desperate to get rid of things as fast as possible. So, because my evening schedule is basically work on the house or don't, I went a picked it up an hour after I saw it. For $35.

I will admit to being quite nervous as to what the condition of this chair would be. They can run anywhere from $300 to $1000. Which is silly for a chair. Just silly. But they're wonderful, so obviously people buy them. Anyway,  you can imagine my apprehension. What was I getting myself into? Was this a scam (ok, doubtful but I have a great imagination)? Adding to it was the profile picture of the seller... tongue anyone? But she was a really nice girl, and I think the chair is beautiful. I'll admit there is a slight smoke smell in the cushions, but nothing that a carpet cleaner can't get out.

Right?! The stripes even match up on the cushions. You shall be read in so often you don't even realize it.

In other news, the front of our house it very white. White ceilings, walls, cupboards and husbands.

That's the living room in all its... white.

Sanding is dusty, messy, tiring and not all that much fun. I'm a wimp so I got out of it. It is definitely a job in which having muscles helps.

Now don't get too excited, because it's not actually installed, it's just set in the room, but Caed's room is officially painted and the flooring is acclimatizing. I think it looks beautiful. Trim can only add to it's gorgeousness.

Asparagus

You may recall, way back when I still thought renovating was fun and picking out paint was exciting (because you're so far away from actually having to do the painting that you forget that it does involve many coats, painting the ceiling and discovering muscles you didn't know you had), that I picked out Asparagus for Caed's room. Green. And so I have painted the ceiling and did the primer and last night coat 1 of asparagus went up. I think it's nice.

Also, I really liked getting to paint his room. Renting is lovely, but we never got to pick out a color to paint our new babies room. And that was fine, I wasn't overly sad about it. But it really is exciting when you actually get to do it. Yay.

Coat 2 here we come....

While I Was Sleeping...er, Away

I went away Easter weekend. Home. To see a large portion of my most favorite people. It was lovely. We cleaned out the farm house, and visited lots and celebrated anniversaries, and Jesus being alive and Caed didn't nap.

And while I was doing all this. My husband worked on the house. Lots. Like lots and lots.

So the mudding is ridiculously close to being done. Josh is my hero. I love him. Even more since he did most of the mudding that was left. Like almost all. Amazing. We now have doors. One is even installed. So if my toilet is ever hooked up there will be privacy when using it. My island is drywalled. It looks clean and pretty. I'm sure I'm forgetting things. Oh the cold air exchange is hooked up. But that's boring. I'm just so happy to see very little mudding in my future. Yay.

So we went last night and I actually starting painting. Caed's room is very white right now. White ceiling paint and white primer. It's pretty bright. Hopefully we'll get his room put together in the next 7 days. It would be sooner, but 2 coats of paint drying and flooring acclimatizing takes time.

And Josh did some more mudding... and sanding... I thanked him for doing all the horrible jobs.

Insulation in attic! Dusty yucky work. Josh sat in the attic for a few hours being showered in this. It's cellulose.

 Cold air return.

Pantry door. It looks installed but it's just sitting there. I found out when I tried to open it last night.

Bathroom door. So nice. It still needs to be painted.

Side door! I installed those knobs... Josh did everything else.

 It looks like a house!

Notice anything?? No awnings!!
